She moves into a cottage, somewhere in the woods. The only other cottage in the area is owned by Jo, a woman in her mid-thirties. Gradually the two become good friends, and Jo tells her about Alex Wheatley, a widowed store owner. Alex has two young children, and he is a warm and caring man. Katie finds herself becoming attached to the entire family, inspite of her reservations. Slowly, she realizes her love for Alex, but her past haunts her. This dark past was the reason she crossed the country, and started living alone. Jo supports her throughout her dilemma of forming a relationship with Alex. Will Katie be able to let go of her past, and be with Alex? Or is her past too haunting to let go off? Safe Haven is a book about love, pain, and trust. Safe Haven has been adapted into a film, that was released in 2013. It starred Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel, and Cobie Smulders. About Nicholas Sparks Nicholas Sparks, born in 1965, is an American author and screenwriter. Sparks has seventeen published novels, some of which are A Walk to Remember, The Guardian, At First Sight, The Last Song, and The Wedding. The Notebook, published in 1996, was his first novel. It was on the New York Times bestseller list in the very first week of its publication. Eight of the author’s books have been made into movies. The author graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Major in business finance. Sparks worked as a salesman, waiter, and real estate appraiser, before becoming a full time writer. He funds fellowships, scholarships, and internships for the Creative Writing Program (MFA) at the University of Notre Dame. Sparks and his wife live with their five children in North Carolina.
